Passenger2 VR Support – Third‑Party VR Compatibility Confirmed

passenger2 vr support

Passenger2 VR Support: As development continues toward release, the Passenger2 team is pleased to share an exciting update for virtual reality pilots. One of the most common questions from the community has been whether Passenger2 will support VR, and today we can confirm that Passenger2 works in VR with the help of third‑party tools. This marks an important step for simmers who prefer to fly fully immersed inside the cockpit.

While Passenger2 is a standalone desktop application and does not include native VR integration, extensive testing has shown that it functions smoothly when used alongside popular VR overlay tools. This ensures that VR users can enjoy the full Passenger2 experience, including the UI, flight monitor, announcements, and cabin interactions, without needing to remove their headset.

Why Passenger2 VR Support Is Not Included Navtivaly

Passenger2 is designed as a standalone application that runs independently from the simulator. This architecture allows it to support multiple platforms – Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, P3D, X‑Plane, and FSX – without needing to integrate directly into each sim’s rendering engine. Because of this, native VR support is not part of the initial release.

Native VR integration would require:

  • A dedicated VR UI rendering pipeline
  • Per‑sim VR API integration
  • Additional performance optimisation
  • A separate VR‑specific interface

These features would significantly increase development time and complexity. Instead, the team focused on ensuring that Passenger2 works reliably with existing VR overlay tools that many simmers already use.

Tested VR Tools – What Works Today

Passenger2 VR Support has been successfully tested using several widely used VR overlay solutions:

SteamVR Overlay
SteamVR’s built‑in overlay system allows desktop windows to be pinned inside the VR cockpit. Passenger2’s interface displays clearly and remains responsive, making it easy to monitor boarding, announcements, and flight data.

OVR Toolkit
OVR Toolkit is one of the most popular VR utilities for simmers. Passenger2 works seamlessly within OVR Toolkit, allowing users to:

  • Pin the Passenger2 UI anywhere in the cockpit
  • Resize or reposition the window
  • Interact with the interface using VR controllers or mouse passthrough

This makes OVR Toolkit an excellent option for VR pilots who want full control over their Passenger2 layout.

Windows Mixed Reality (WMR)
Passenger2 has also been tested with WMR’s desktop window projection. The UI displays correctly and remains functional throughout the flight, giving WMR users the same flexibility as SteamVR pilots.

These tests confirm that VR users across multiple ecosystems can enjoy Passenger2 without compromise.

How Passenger2 Works Inside VR

Because Passenger2 is a standalone application, it runs on the desktop while the simulator runs in VR. The overlay tools simply project the Passenger2 window into the VR environment. This allows users to:

  • Monitor passenger boarding
  • View safety videos
  • Track announcements
  • Check flight monitor data
  • Manage airline operations
  • Interact with menus and settings

All without removing the headset or switching out of VR mode.

The result is a smooth, immersive workflow that keeps the pilot fully engaged in the cockpit while still benefiting from Passenger2’s features.

Benefits for VR Pilot

The confirmation of VR compatibility is a major win for the VR community. Many VR pilots rely heavily on in‑cockpit overlays to manage flight planning, charts, ATC tools, and now Passenger2. With third‑party VR support confirmed, users can expect:

  • Full immersion without needing to lift the headset
  • Easy access to Passenger2’s UI and flight monitor
  • Flexible placement of windows anywhere in the cockpit
  • Consistent performance across supported VR platforms
  • A seamless experience that mirrors desktop usage
This ensures that VR pilots can enjoy the same depth and realism as desktop users.

Future Possibilities for VR Integration

While native VR support is not planned for the initial release, the team has expressed interest in exploring deeper VR integration in the future. Potential enhancements could include:

  • A VR‑optimised UI
  • Gesture‑based interactions
  • VR‑specific layout presets
  • Improved performance for VR overlays
  • Native VR window rendering

These features would require significant development resources, but the foundation laid by third‑party compatibility makes future expansion possible.

A Step Forward for Immersive Simulation

This Passenger2 VR support update highlights the team’s commitment to accessibility and user experience. By ensuring compatibility with popular VR tools, Passenger2 becomes a viable option for the growing number of simmers who fly exclusively in virtual reality.

Whether you fly with SteamVR, OVR Toolkit, or WMR, Passenger2 will integrate smoothly into your workflow, allowing you to enjoy the full passenger‑simulation experience without breaking immersion.

  1. The issue I have with Self Loading Cargo is once you are in VR and click with mouse out of MSFS to SLC app to interact with the menu is it locks up for some reason everyone during the action and has to be reloaded. I hoping Passneger2 doesn’t have that issue. If you need to ask me any additional questions let me know
